The challenge
An independent label has to do two jobs at once. It sells merch straight to fans, and it has to look credible enough that artists and industry people take it seriously. Honky Tonk had the ethos for both. What they didn't have was control. Tour dates moved, merch dropped, articles needed posting, and every one of those changes meant waiting on an outside developer.
What we did
- 1
Put the ethos into words
A brand framework rooted in how the label already talks about itself. Built by the people, for the people, with a story that matches the raw talent on the roster.
- 2
Design it media-first
Night scenes and boot-scuff texture wrapped around a Spotify player that keeps running while fans work their way through the artist roster.
- 3
Hand them the keys
A slide-out cart shortens the path from track to checkout. Payload CMS puts tour dates, merch drops, and articles in the team's own hands.
The outcome
The label runs its own site now. News, tour dates, and the roster all change without a developer in the loop, so a merch drop can go live the day someone decides on it. The brand finally reads as seriously as the music does, and fans stay in it longer.
